Food, Inc. (The Movie)

Food, Inc.Image via Wikipedia
If you really want some insight into where you food really comes from, I suggest that you watch this movie.  I will caution you that this is not for the weak stomached.  Some parts are really gross.  But it is about as informative as it gets and it really makes you think.

Food, Inc., is an informative documentary showing where and how our food is made.  It goes behind the scenes and with hidden cameras into the actual facilities where our food is processed.  It is real, raw and uncut.  There is no sugar coating.  I  for one was changed after watching this movie and I myself am a self proclaimed healthnut junkie, before even watching.

If you are really determined to make a change in your life, in the way you eat,  I highly recommend you watch this movie.  The information you will gather will change your life.

Juice Plus

Juice PlusImage via Wikipedia
In addition to a good multivitamin, I wanted my children to also have a whole food supplement.  I try my best to make sure that my kids eat right, but even for an adult it is hard to get all of your fruit and veggies.  That is why I started giving my kids Juice Plus. I and my family have been taking Juice Plus for years.

Juice Plus isn't a multivitamin.  It is comprised of freeze dried fruits and vegetables.  It also contains probiotics and fiber. It is a supplement take in addition to eating a wholesome diet.  I have yet to find a product that compares.

Juice Plus in no way replaces the need to eat your fruits and vegetables.  It is only to supplement.  A diet rich and fruit and vegetables is ideal, but when you can a good whole food supplement can assist.

They offer a gummy version for kids.  My kids love them because they taste like candy but they don't have all of the additives. And now their gummies are vegan, which means they don't contain any animal products.

I personally believe in this this product,  I am constantly researching and looking for products superior.  So far to me this is the best, but I do continue my search.

To learn more about Juice Plus, please visit their website- https://www.juiceplus.com/nsa/content/Welcome.soa

(I am not a distributor for Juice Plus,  I just believe in this product and have personally been using this product for years.)

Children's Multivitamin

As a mom, my kids health is of the utmost importance to me.  I try to do whatever I can to make sure that they eat healthy.  But, sometimes it is just plain difficult to get your children to eat what they are supposed to.  My kids are stubborn and uncooperative most times.  So that is why I believe it is very important for them to take a multivitamin.

The only problem is which one should they take?

I have been searching for the perfect multi for years now.  I wanted something without artificial anything, no allergens, no fillers.  Something that has the right balance of essential vitamins and minerals, and that taste good.  I am hoping that my search is over.  I started giving my kids Mercolas Children's Chewables.  My kids finally don't complain about taking their vitamins.  I even like the taste.

As you can tell from a few of my other posts I trust Mercolas products because he stands behind every one that he endorses.  He also does his research.

There are a lot of other great children's multivitamins out there.  Just make sure that whatever you choose doesnt' have any artificial sweeteners, no artificial colors, no allergens and no irritants.  Always do your research, especially when it comes to your kids.

Wheatgrass

WeizengrasImage via Wikipedia
Wheatgrass is thought to be one of nature's finest medicines.  Wheatgrass is comprised of a variety of grass used for therapeutic and nutritional purposes.  It can be taken as a juice, in a dried concentrate, powder or tablets.  I have even heard of people simply chewing the grass itself and spitting out the pulp once the juice was extracted.

Wheatgrass is mostly known for its roles as a blood purifier, liver detoxer and colon cleanser.  Rich in chlorophyll like chorella, which it why it is green.  It is an inexpensive and wonderful way to cleanse, nourish, rejuvenate and heal your body.  The list for aliments that wheatgrass can treat are endless.  Wheatgrass is thought to help with conditions from cancer to diabetes, and ADD to autism.  I personally don't mind the taste either.

Wheatgrass is simple to sprout.  I have even sprouted a batch on my kitchen counter.  I haven't sprouted any in a while because my juicer just couldn't handle it.  The grass is thick and course and can really destroy a traditional juicer.  They do make juicers just for wheatgrass, I just need to get one, so that I can start sprouting again.  They even have a smoothie place in town that has wheatgrass shots.

If you are unable to grow and juice your own wheatgrass there are some very good supplements on the market.  I have used "Sweet Wheat" in the past for myself and for my children.  The pills are easy because you don't have the taste to deal with, and I would break open a capsule for my kids and put it in their juice.

So give wheatgrass a shot, what have you got to lose!!! Its does the body good!!

Chlorella

What is this weird name? Chlorella is a type of single-celled green algae thought to be one of nature's true super foods.  It is super rich in chlorophyll which attends to it green color and is perfect for detoxification. I  have learned through my experiences as a health nut junkie that if its green then is probably good for you.

So what can Chlorella do for you?  Chlorella is thought to help remove toxic metals from your body, help the immune system, assist with digestion, help increase energy, and even help with bad breathe.  It is suitable for all ages. Chlorella is said to be a blood purifier.  Some even say that it can undo damage by its detoxification properties.  I have even read that it can help your body detox from radiation, whether through routine x-rays or therapy.

I have used Chlorella through my pregnancy, nursing and beyond.  I also have no problem giving them to my kids.

You can take Chlorella in a powder form, but I personally use a supplement.  I have only used Mercola's brand of Chlorella.  I have used Mercola's brand of products for years.  I personally feel that his products are thoroughly researched and he personally uses every product that he endorses.  I am sure that there are a lot of other brands out there that are just as good.

So go green!! Inside as well as out.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass taken at St.Andrew's-sewanee school...Image via Wikipedia
A few months ago my dad introduced me to lemongrass.  I had heard about it previously but he actually has some growing in his backyard.  He asked me if I would like some lemongrass tea.  I was thinking that he would open the cabinet and take out some tea bags.  Rather then that he went outside cut some of the lemongrass and boiled it.  Strained it and there is was lemongrass tea.

The funny part is that it actually smells like lemons.  The tea is soothing and actually has a pretty good taste.  I never thought that grass could smell and taste like lemons, but it did.

So what is lemongrass ?  It is a large grass that reaches up  to about 2 feet or more in height.  Its scientific name is Cymbopogon citratus.  The usable parts of the plant are the leaves and stem.

When these usable parts are boiled it can be used as a stimulant.  It helps aid with digestion, promotes perspiration as well as helping the body to expel gas and intestinal worms.  It has also been used as an expectorate for flu and colds.  Lemongrass is an essential cooking ingredient in a lot of Asian dishes.  Known for its aroma and flavor.

The best part about this plant is the price.  You can grow it in you back yard and keep it handy for when you need it.  Whether for your favorite dish or tummy trouble.
